The Transaction Team attorneys bring multi-disciplinary legal expertise to structure, negotiate, document and close complex and sophisticated business transactions. Most of the Transaction Team’s attorneys practice across the traditional legal boundaries of corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate, financing and tax. Our Transaction Team utilizes a cross-disciplinary approach - our tax partners often structure, negotiate, and handle an entire business deal, rather than merely the "tax portion" of a transaction – our real estate attorneys have significant experience with complex corporate structuring and transactions, employment agreements and other business agreements – and most of our Transaction Team’s lawyers are experienced in transactions which are implemented within a bankruptcy case. By using all the expertise of attorneys familiar with many legal disciplines, the Transaction Team delivers more effective legal representation on a more cost effective basis, often exceeding clients’ expectations.

To reflect the changing nature of the legal industry, most of our attorneys have been trained at and have practiced with major national law firms prior to joining Berger Singerman, and many Transaction Team members are licensed by or familiar with the laws of States other than Florida. Nick Jovanovich is a shareholder resident in the Fort Lauderdale office and is a member of Berger Singerman’s Transaction Team. He is an AV rated, Board Certified Tax Attorney and a Certified Public Accountant. He is also Vice Chair of the Bankruptcy Tax and the Partnership Tax Committees of the Federal Tax Division of the Florida Bar Tax Section. He concentrates his practice in the areas of corporate, partnership, limited liability companies, sales and use tax, estate planning, bankruptcy tax planning and tax controversies, including matters involving the IRS and the Florida Department of Revenue.

Mr. Jovanovich received his undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Florida State University, and obtained his LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of Florida. Mr. Jovanovich is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court, the United States Court of Federal Claims and all State Courts in Florida.

Mr. Jovanovich co-authored Chapter 37, Reorganization and Sale of Business, and Chapter 38, Taxation of Rentals and Leases, of Florida Tax Service (2d), Sales and Use Tax, published by Commerce Clearing House, and authored Chapter 7, Capitalization and Issuance of Stock, of Florida Small Business Practice (4th Ed.) published by The Florida Bar. He has also written articles on numerous topics, including Family Limited Partnerships published by THE TAX SECTION BULLETIN in 1996, and was a co-author of Analysis of Asset Protection Plans for Physician Practice Groups published by THE FLORIDA BAR JOURNAL in March, 2004.

Mr. Jovanovich is a member of the Broward County Bar Association, the Estate Planning Council of Broward County (Director, 1994-1996) and the Greater Fort Lauderdale Tax Council (Director, 1991; Secretary, 1991-1992; Treasurer, 1992-1993; Vice President, 1993-1994; President, 1994-1995; Advisory Committee Member, present). He is also a charter member of the Florida Advisory Council for the National Business Institute and an Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University School of Law teaching Estate and Gift Taxation. Mr. Jovanovich is a graduate of Leadership Broward Class VII, sponsored by the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce. In 2006 and 2007, Mr. Jovanovich was named “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine. South Florida Legal Guide named him one of the Top South Florida Lawyers for Tax Law, Estate Planning and Corporate Law for 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2007 and 2008, Mr. Jovanovich was named to the “Florida Super Lawyers” list for Tax Law, compiled by the publishers of Law & Politics magazine. He is fluent in Spanish and conversant in Russian and Yugoslav/Serbian.
